Metastatic Breast Cancer

Here are some information about Metastatic Breast Cancer.

What is Metastatic Breast Cancer?

Metastatic Breast Cancer is also classified as Stage 4 breast cancer. The cancer has spread to other parts of the body. This usually includes the lungs, liver, bones or brain.

How does cancer spread or metastasize?

The spread of cancer usually happens through one or more of the following steps:

1. Cancer cells invade nearby healthy cells. When the healthy cells is taken over, it too can replicate more abnormal cells.

2. Cancer cells penetrate into the circulatory or lymph system. Cancer cells travel through the walls of nearby lymph vessels or blood vessels.

3. Migration through circulation. Cancer cells are carried by the lymph system and the blood stream to other parts of the body.

4. Cancer cells lodge in capillaries. Cancer cells stop moving as they are lodge in capillaries at a distant location and divide and migrate into the surrounding tissue.

5. New small tumors grow. Cancer cells form small tumors at the new location (called micrometastases)

What are The Symptoms of Metastatic Breast Cancer?

The symptoms may vary, depending on how far your breast cancer has spread and what type of tissue the new cancer growth has invaded. All symptoms should be reported to your physician.

Metastasis in the bones may cause:

  • severe, progressive pain
  • swelling
  • bones that are more easily fractured or broken
Metastasis to the brain may cause:
  • persistent, progressive worsening headache or pressure to the head
  • vision disturbances
  • seizures
  • vomiting or nausea
  • behavioral changes or personality changes
Metastasis to the liver may cause:
  • jaundice
  • itchy skin or rash
  • abnormally high enzyme in the liver
  • abnormal pain, appetite loss, nausea and vomiting
Metastasis to the lungs may cause:
  • chronic cough or inability to get a full breath
  • abnormal chest x-ray
  • chest pain
  • other nonspecific systemic symptoms of metastatic breast cancer can include fatigue, weight loss and poor appetite, but it's important to remember these can also be caused by medication or depression.

Home for a Few Days

I was granted a few days off to return home. Finally arrived last Wednesday, 13th June 2018.  Good thing that the strawberries and blackberries, along with the asparagus i brought and packed on my suite case did not spoil.

First, I would like to thank all of you who have extended help to us this past few days. Your kindness is overwhelming. My family is forever grateful.

The same night I arrived, we called some hospitals to inquire about the schedules of Medical Oncologist. We found Dr. Tolentino, who had clinic hours the following day, 14th June 2018. We arrived at the hospital at about 1:00PM the next day.

After reviewing my mother's medical records from the previous hospital where she was confined last May 2018, we were informed that my mom needs to undergo some tests as the cancer might have metastasised (spread to other sites in the body by metastasis) already . The doctor ordered for the following tests: Laboratory Test, CT Scan for the Chest, Ultrasound for Whole abdomen, and Bone Scan.

Since it is not very easy to walk a distance for my mom, we have made her tests from the same hospital. On the same day, she did the laboratory test and ultrasound. I am able to understand some of the comments on the result but i will let the doctors explain everything to us in details.

Last Saturday, 16th June 2018, we returned to the same hospital and my mother underwent CT Scan for the Chest with Full Contrast. The result will be available after 24 hours so we are going to collect it the next time that we are in the hospital.

We expect to return to the hospital this week for her Bone scan and for her follow up with her oncologist.

Please continue to pray for my mother in her fight against cancer. And please continue to support and share our fundraising campaign at https://gogetfunding.com/support-moms-fight/

Nine Days After The Fundraising Campaign Started...

It is very overwhelming to know that friends, even when you don't see or talk to them that much, are still very much willing to extend their help and for that I am thankful.

And what's more, we feel blessed and grateful for the people that we don't know personally but have supported us in our Fundraising Campaign.

This past couple of days we received more funds. THANK YOU again not only for sending help but also for keeping us in your prayers. God Bless all of you!

1st day of Campaign for "Support Mom's Fight"

Hey all, this is another attempt to blog. But this time, my purpose is different. Not just to right about stuff, about other people, other places etc. This blog was created for and inspired by my mother's, Rosa,  medical condition.

My sister and my mother are currently residing in the Philippines. She was complaining about not being able to breath smoothly. So we asked her to see the doctor. When my sister took mother  to the clinic on the 14th of May 2018, they performed X-Ray on her, and found out that she had water on her lungs. They were then advised to go to Antipolo Doctors Hospital as they informed both of them  that my mother needed to be admitted. Upon admission, they scheduled the operation right away because if not, she would not be able to breath properly. The operation took place on the same night my mother was admitted to the hospital. Before the operation, the doctor noticed the cyst on her right breast. Right there and then they suspected that it might be the cause of having the water on her lungs. When they operated on her, the doctor also took a sample from the cyst for Biopsy. After 10 days , the biopsy result came...

My mother has Stage 4 Breast Cancer.

Today, we started a Fundraising Campaign called "Support Mom's Fight" at GoGetFunding.com. A more detailed story is also posted in the campaign information. We have started this campaign as mom needs to undergo Chemotherapy.

Two weeks after they operated on her, she had another operation as the doctor needs to remove the tube from her lungs. She is now resting at home until her next check-up.

Our Family would greatly appreciate any amount you can donate. Please go to https://gogetfunding.com/support-moms-fight/ , you can post your donations there and all donations go directly to my account in Paypal. All donations will be use for the upcoming treatments and medicines of my mother. Donations are also accepted through other channel, please let me know if you prefer other options.

Also, we would like to ask you to share our campaign to as many people as possible. This is a very BIG help for us.

I will be positing any updates on our campaign and my mother's condition. Thank you for being for choosing to be a part of this campaign and may God Bless you more!
